Areas reopen in Grampians (Gari-werd) National Park for the long weekend

POSTED:
21 January 2025

The Grampians Tourist Road from Dunkeld to Halls Gap and popular areas of the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park are set to reopen on Friday 24 January at 10am following the Yarram Gap Road bushfire.

Several significant sites and major roads will open, including the Grampians Tourist Road, Victoria Valley Road, Wonderland walks north of the Pinnacle, and Reeds Lookout.

This is thanks to the incredible bushfire response from Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic), Country Fire Authority (CFA) and other agencies since the Yarram Gap Road bushfire started in the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park on 17 December 2024.

Visitors travelling to the Grampians over the up-coming long weekend will be able to access the Pinnacle walk in the Wonderland Range from Halls Gap and Wonderland carpark. All Walking tracks south of the Pinnacle remain closed, including all walking tracks in the Sundial area.

Drivers on the Grampians Tourist Road need to be aware that other park access roads and walking tracks in the fire impacted area, including Silverband Road, Yarram Gap Road and Mt William Road, remain closed.

Firefighting crews and partner agencies have worked tirelessly for the last 35 days to control the fire, and will continue these works until the fire is declared safe.

Regional Roads Victoria assessed and repaired around 45km of the Grampians Tourist Road following the fire. Repairs will continue along the road over the coming months.

All visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and continue to follow emergency advice from authorities. Visitors are asked to monitor conditions and ensure they have downloaded the VicEmergency app or website and listen to your local radio emergency broadcaster.

For full details on the reopened areas of the park, visit Parks Victoria Website:
